Casting log and troubleshooting

The casting log

The Casting log tab keeps a record of every cast: the date, the project, the investment and cycle, the metal, the flask temperature, the result and photos. Next time, you can see what worked and repeat it.

The casting log

Click Log a cast to add one. The form fills in today's settings for you. Add the result, any defects, notes and photos, the cast tree weight, and the reused metal melted.

Logging a cast

On any entry, Use these settings puts that cast's settings back into the app, so you can repeat it.

You can search and filter the log. Export CSV saves it for a spreadsheet, and Back up and Restore keep a copy safe.

What your log has learned

Once three casts have a tree weight and the app's estimate, What your log has learned shows your median melt loss and how your real trees weigh against the estimate, over your last 12 casts.

What your log has learned

Turn on Use in my estimates and the tree results add a Melt, from your log figure, and the Alloying tab offers your melt loss as the extra.

Troubleshoot a casting

When a cast goes wrong, open Troubleshoot a casting and pick what you see: porosity, incomplete fill, fins, a rough surface, inclusions and more. You get the likely causes and the fixes, and where possible the setting in the app to change, such as the sprue size, flask temperature, burnout time or mix ratio.
